Working Group 1
With high quality genomes becoming available at an increasing pace, the community is faced with the challenge of how to use these resources for the good of society. WG1 will explore this issue by identifying relevant stakeholders through discussions incorporating different sectors of society. The primary aim is to connect stakeholders generating reference genome information (e.g., ERGA, DToL, and Psyche) with potential users of such information, both for scientific and applied questions.
WG1 Objectives
- Engage with the projects generating reference genomes (ERGA, DToL, Psyche and numerous labs and teams) to ensure a dialogue among producers of data, as well as between these and end users.
- Engage with national and transnational practitioners and public stakeholders to identify gaps in research that impact their needs.
- Increase understanding of the potential uses of genomic information with different stakeholders and survey societal needs where genomic information is of use. Engage with the amateur expert community to introduce genomics and its uses.
- Jointly identify primary target species for transnational conservation efforts where genomic information can lead to better decisions.
WG1 Activities
The first workshop of WG1 is planned from 8-10 September 2025 at the Senckenberg German Entomological Institute in Müncheberg (Germany).
